Gatesworth Stories —

Spa One at The Gatesworth
Giving Every Resident a Pampered Experience

When you move into a retirement community, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice any of your regular comforts. This includes getting your hair and nails done, having a massage or any other spa service. That’s why The Gatesworth offers Spa One, a full-service spa that prioritizes every resident’s individual needs.

“The residents love that we are full-service,” explains Spa One director Mary Campbell. “Hair is very popular, but all of our services are special. At Spa One, residents are steps away from relaxation and beauty. They always tell us they feel beautiful and that we’ve done a wonderful job. They always feel pampered, and everyone is treated with respect.”

Spa One tailors its services to each resident through personal consultations. The staff sit down with everyone to find out what they are looking for and meet their desired needs. Nothing is too small to be considered, whether it’s having drinks on hand or changing the thermostat in the space – Spa One follows The Gatesworth’s motto of ‘The answer is yes. What was the question?’

Services include therapeutic massages that can soothe muscles and improve circulation, as well as facials, manicures and pedicures – the latter of which includes paraffin dips to help with joint pain and heated massage tables. There is also a salon and barbershop and residents are always consulted over cut and color choices, so they get the exact service they want.

“I enjoy the spa and look forward to coming every week,” says resident June Bierman. “Everyone is so gracious and pleasant. It’s a great experience!”

Campbell explains that the Spa One staff are a family, and that they want residents to feel like family, too. Having worked there for 17 years, she loves getting to spend time with the residents and hear their stories. To her, The Gatesworth isn’t a job, but a second home.

“I have the best staff,” she adds. “I primarily look for kindness and empathy when looking for people to hire. We don’t know every resident’s situation like their health or what’s going on – so we always have to be kind. That’s what we are. The rest of training comes naturally; we all learn from each other. Most of us have been here more than five years, four of whom have been there more than 10. It’s a very seasoned staff. We’ll do anything that the residents need.”

In addition to spa services, Spa One also hosts special events such as fashion, makeup and jewelry shows. Coordinated with The Gatesworth’s Gift Shop, these events allow residents to try on different fashions brought in from area boutiques that they can then order. Campbell adds that working with the gift shop means more people can get involved with these events.

Campbell concludes that, like every service at The Gatesworth, the goal is always to make the residents feel their happiest and most comfortable.

“Spa services make everyone happy,” Campbell says. “Everyone feels relaxed, spoiled and special – and, after all, who doesn’t want to feel special?”
